Brentwood Estates (2008)

Brentwood-Estates-2008

This project was sparked during a double bass recording session at my friend Tommy Spikers studio. Tommy was on electric bass and me on upright. This was something we had been talking about doing for a while. So as we’re recording, Tommy’s friend Jimmy Luxury stops by. Jimmy is a very talented freestyle rapper with a Boston accent and an extraordinary imagination. He quickly becomes part of the session by freestyling on the tracks that me and Tommy had recorded earlier, as well as some new stuff we were coming up with, and thus the Brentwood Estates project came to be. Afterwards, Tommy took what he had and created this record. It was also indeed fun to be part of the production on the track ‘Whisky’, in which Jimmy (NOT DRUNK) seemed to have a lot to say. This project didn’t last long. After the record was finished some shows were booked to try and recreate the magic. One show in particular, at the North Star Bar in Philadelphia, was high in energy, but so high that at one point Jimmy jumps off stage and does the windmill in front of the crowd. A great vibe while it lasted, and a fun record.
